I am converting from to Kubuntu from M$. Vista is a disgrace. I have managed to get a high-end laptop completely running on Kubuntu and was looking for replacement for PS CS2 which I have bought and upgraded continuously (5, 7, CS1, CS2). When they wanted hundreds more to upgrade to CS3 - just so I could read the raw files of my new camera - that and Vista sent me to Linux.

I found LightZone, installed with very little issues and am evaluating it for my photography work (amateur) vs. CS2. Quite a different paradigm - but I didn't really like CS2 that much anyway. So far, so good. I will give it a good work out over the next several months as I have about 3500 RAW pics (10Mp) to process.

Thanks for offering it for free - I would not mind paying a reasonable amount for the product - if it has MORE features / quality than free - but free is good too. I am spreading the word about the product. (Most of my friends would be getting the Windows version instead of CS3 - instead of the Linux - but I know several who may give the Linux a whirl).

There will probably be additional beta releases at least monthly through that time.

No decisions have been made beyond April. Please encourage as many other Linux users to try the beta over the next 90 days so we can ensure it is robust.

'd like to have a free community supported version for those who want it, if we can find enough people willing to support it on a community basis. I'd also like be able to offer a paid support version for those who prefer that as well. What we finally decide to will largely be determined by what we hear from our Linux beta testers via email and especially here on this forum.

Help us figure out how to make this happen!

My beta expires in 12 days. What can I (and others) do to support continued development of this application for Linux?

For me, LZ represents the first and, to date, only native Linux photo ap with which I feel comfortable. I downloaded the trial XP version, but much prefer to work in Linux, and, so, that version saw little use from me.

I own PSCS3, but, since downloading LZ, have used it very little.

I would love to make LZ for Linux my permanent photo ap if it is offered as such.

Default So...what's going to happen when the beta expires?

    Caruso,

Because I am no longer working for Light Crafts, I cannot make a promise concerning what will happen in the remaining 12 days. However, I believe that Light Crafts Marketing wants to continue to offer a solution for its Linux users, and that they will provide a new version shortly. [edited by Light Crafts Technical support]

    All the best,

A free community supported version would be great. I would personally invest some time to help others if I can.
Also curious of what's gonna happen when the beta expires in three days. I have to edit some photos for a client and it's gonna be a real hazzle if I have to learn a new raw program this week. Got loads of other stuff in school I have to do as well.
For me the beta has been working perfect, no crashes I can remember. I have converted many people into using LZ, some of them Linux people.

I really do hope a new beta is released and a final product eventually! I switched from Vista to Ubuntu and lightzone means I don't need to run a windows virtual machine all the time.

I also noted that on the same machine Lightzone is a lot snappier on Ubuntu.

As explained in one of there other posts there will be a LightZone for Linux available in the "near future."

The MSRP for this product will be the same as for Windows version, $199. However, be on the lookout, because there will be a special launch offer available.

Also note that there will be no "Basic" version of the software. For simplicity there is only one version of LZ Linux.

I do hope that there is not going to be a "lag" between the end of the beta(2 days from now!) and the official release... Because I really use LightZone a lot and I don't want to miss it very long...

    cheers,

This trial copy of LightZone for Linux will expire tomorrow at 12:00 AM

The question is: What is "near future"?

I really think that I will purchase the linux version when it's available. I am just worried to have to do without lightzone between 12 am tomorrow and the "near future"...
